How to reduce logging in Policy Patrol

More Information

Policy Patrol stores the logging settings in three files that are located in the Policy Patrol Email directory, by default in C:\Program Files\OPSWAT\Policy Patrol Email (32-bit) or C:\Program Files (x86)\OPSWAT\Policy Patrol Email (64-bit):

PolicyPatrol.Email.Common.dll.config
RedEarthSoftware.DataManager.exe.config
RedEarthSoftware.Exchange.SisaManager.exe.config

To change the level and/or number of days Policy Patrol stores log files:

  1. Make a backup of the file you want to edit so that you can go back to the default settings if necessary.
  2. Open the file in Notepad.
  3. Search for 'LogLevel'. By default the LogLevel is set to 'Debug'. If you want to reduce the logging you can change it to 'Warn' (recommended) or 'Error' (Warn will include warnings and errors, Error will only include errors).

For example, this is one of the default entries:
    <setting name="DebugLogLevel" serializeAs="String"><value>Debug</value></setting>
    You can change it to:
    <setting name="DebugLogLevel" serializeAs="String"><value>Warn</value></setting>
  4. Search for 'LogMaxSize'. By default Policy Patrol stores files for 4 days. If for instance you wish to store log files only for 2 days, change the default 4DAYS to 2DAYS:

For example, this is one of the default entries:
    <setting name="AdministrationLogMaxSize" serializeAs="String"><value>4DAYS</value></setting>
    You can change this to:
    <setting name="AdministrationLogMaxSize" serializeAs="String"><value>2DAYS</value></setting>
  5. Save the file and restart the Policy Patrol Email Server service.
  6. Note that the PolicyPatrol.Email.Common.dll.config file has several entries for different types of logs so you need to continue to search the entire file.
